Well, the day has finally arrived and we take possession of our lovely new home some time later today. We have a couple of car loads of stuff to transport but will have to wait till nearer Christmas for the main shipment - camping again then!
After an overnight temperture of 24 its set to rise to at least 33 by lunch time but a cool change and rain is due by 5.00 so hopefully we won't melt away. The fridge is coming tomorrow so will have to make do with the Eskie!
We won't be connected to our new internet provider for another 10 days so you will all get a rest from my ramblings. If I get desperate I can use the Library computers any time - good for picking up urgent emails if nothing else. Bye for now............. I'll be back soon.

Woeful Wednesday
All spent out so came home to lie down in a darkened room. As well as signing up for Foxtel (TV) and Adam (Internet and phone), we have bought these today............. Fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine, phone and handsets, TV and unit, DVD player............. and paid the outstanding amount on two single beds, a sofa/chaise and small sofa. Just the house to pay for tomorrow.......OUCH!

Oh Dear!
Just heard our shipment, which should have arrived in Adelaide today, won't arrive until 4th December and then will take another 2 weeks to clear customs! We are still moving into our new house at the weekend but will be camping for a while with just a few essentials. We've been buying a few small electrical things - kettle, toaster, iron....... and will get the fridge-freezer and TV as soon as we get some measurements.
Luckily we already have a table and 4 chairs, large rug, table lamp and basic bedding and a cheap sofa and 2 single beds will be delivered by Monday. We even have a couple of folding garden chairs. Also bought a frying pan, saucepan, kitchen knives, plates and bowls, drinking glasses, mugs and towels in Target's sale so I'm sure we'll manage fine even if we won't be doing much 'entertaining' for a while.

The final part of the journey home was through the wine region of McLaren Vale and district of Onkaparinga Hills via Clarendon and Coromandel Valley.
Wednesday
Fabulous morning - we went to the Cinema with Paul and Wendy, an Art Deco Building where they serve home-made cakes and coffee before the film (included in the ticket price) and even hold a raffle for the lucky seat number (missed it by one!) Watch 'The Eye of the Storm with Geoffry Rush and Charlotte Rampling - excellent.
It was rather windy when we came out so we decided to do the walk tomorrow!
Back to the house for reading, relaxing and more wine tasting!
Managed to film the kookaburras on my Flip camera and capture the sound too. There's also a clip of a basking seal at Port Elliott on Encounter Bay. He didn't seem to mind the waves crashing on the rocks either.

Thursday
Lots of walking today - round the block, Granite Island and Heritage Trail at Port Elliott. The poor old knees were aching by bedtime!
No horse-drawn trams across the Causway mid-week so had to walk the 1km and then did the round the island walk - very spectacular scenery and wildflowers but we've just missed the end of the Whale season. Still a few seals around but the penguins only appear at dusk so I don't suppose we'll see any of them either.

Tuesday
The day started with a walk 'round the block' before breakfast andwe were joined by Wendy and Paul and a couple of their neighbours Des and Cindy. Even at 8.00 in the morning it was quite warml, especially after walking up a fairly long steep hill at the start. We covered about 3 kms in about 40 minutes and were ready for our cooked breakfast on the veranda after that! This shaded area was ideal for watching the birds coming to feed - Shrike-Thrush, Adelaide Rosellas, Lorrikeets, pink and grey Gallahs and numerous Red-browed Finches. The red pelargonium bushes were full of New Holland Humming birds too.

After a long, leisurely breakfast we visited Goolwa at the Mouth of the River Murray - a favourite destination for us. After a brief stop at the beach to watch the local school's PE lesson (surfing) we went on to the Barrage - a huge barrier which separates the fresh water from the river and lake Alexandrina from the salty sea water of the Coorong. Seals bask on the lock gates and the whole area is full of Pelicans, Cormorants, Black Swans, Herons, Ibis and Welcome Swallows.
We then drove over the impressive bridge to Hindmarsh Island where we could view the mouth of the river and sea through to the Great Southern Ocean. All you could hear were the sounds of sea birds and the crashing waves beyond the sand dunes.

Finally, after a lunch of Lamb Burgers on Sourdough Bread with mint and mango relish, salad and chips at the Whistle Stop (old Station Waiting Room) we headed for Port Elliott on Horseshoe Bay via the surfing beach of Middleton.

Monday
Loaded up the car and headed for Victor Harbor via McLaren Vale and Mount Compass. Had a good walk round the town and sampled the delights of the Anchorage Hotel for lunch before finding our home for the week - a beautiful B&B overlooking the Inman Valley, McCracken Golf Course and Hindmarsh River on the outskirts of town.

The owner built this home 4 years ago and their living quarters are reached by a wooden walkway while on the ground floor are the Studio, Gallery and B&B - a long room with 2 beds and bathroom at one end, sofa and TV in the middle and a dining table, fridge and serving area at the other end. It was beautifully decorated and furnished with great views from each of the 4 large patio windows.
Paul was with the National Parks for many years and Wendy is an artist who specialises in bird pictures http://www.wjennings.com/gallery.htm We learned so much about the local flora and fauna and spotted over 30 different birds while we were there. 2 kookaburras kept us amused with their antics and songs and were hand-fed. They also kept rabbits and 'chooks'.

Stocked up with cheese, cold meats and salads in Coles for our evening meals (accompanied by some good local wines)
Drove up to the Bluff and whaling jetty at the far end of Encounter Bay before coming back to sit and watch the birds and stunning views. Too relaxed even to read my library book.
