Last day of the month

Its been a good month for quilting as I haven't been feeling my usual energetic self - after loads of blood tests and scans it seems I have numerous gallstones - not life-threatening but a nuisance!

Finished my table mats and almost finished the girls quilts and 2 table runners.  I started on a large lap quilt/throw for the lounge room using the Disappearing 9 patch (D9P) pattern.  The pieces are laid out on the craft room floor ready to finalise positions and sew together.

We had gas heating put in a week ago and its fabulous - just in time as the temperatures dipped to 5 the other night.  We are getting solar panels next week so that should keep electricty prices down a bit too.  Here's some photos of my latest sewing efforts.

Our local fabric shop in Blackwood is up for sale - hopefully the business will carry on.  There were loads of bargains and I treated myself to a stash to keep me going.  Not bad for $50

Hoot - Adelaide Hills Jazz Festival at Mount Barker

What a great weekend to celebrate the Queen's Birthday.  Lots of free events - Jazz in tea shops, Jazz Dance in the streets, Jazz in Vineyards and Jazz Bands on Steam Trains.  This is just a flavour of the opening night.  Lots of great events all over the Adelaide Hills.

Yarn Bombing

 ........ ??????   No, I hadn't heard of it either until recently.  It was International Yarn Bombing Day at the weekend and the phantom knitters were busy in Mount Barker too.  The trees were decorated and piano keyboards made of wool adorned the public benches.

Even Carshalton (back in the UK) had some fabulous ducks around the pond.  Red, white and blue of course, for the Jubilee - I'm sure her majesty would have been amused.

Where has June gone?

The days are rushing by and we are now in the depth of Winter.  Its been one of the coldest for 20 years so far and we are really noticing it as our house has no central heating - just a bit of underfloor which takes the chill off the tiles in the family room.  There is no double glazing or decent insulation either - typical for most Aussie built homes sadly.

The good news is we're getting ducted gas heating fitted in a couple of weeks time.  Thankfully my craft room has a little heating but with 2 picture windows its expensive to run.  I've spend quite a few days in there recently - working hard and keeping warm.

The girls quilts are ready for making up as the tops are finished and the collection of table cloths, mats and place mats is growing daily.  A box of goodies arrived from the Missouri Quilt Company so I'm planning lots more.

Just got back from a long afternoon walk to get some fresh air.  May pop out and see if I can join the Hub Quilter's group tonight.  They meet twice a month and it would be good to get some ideas and advice.

I've almost put together 2 of the 4 place mats I'm currently making and will take them along to hand finish the binding.
