Glad to see the back of June!!!!!

The last week or so has been very stressful.  Our next door neighbour wanted to build a new front wall and also put one up between the 2 houses.  The old one was rather scruffy so he suggested to Clive he carried the wall right accross the front of both our houses and Clive agreed.  Silly me! I mistakenly thought that would mean chipping in £200-£300 and having a similar height (18" max) brick wall to replace the old one but no, according to a picture he showed us it could be 4' high with wrought-iron panels. Something I would not have chosen especially as we are about to sell the house.

He came round to ask for a deposit while Clive was out and when I asked 'how much do you need?' he replied £500!  (note - DEPOSIT - not full amount)  I was understandably shocked to find Clive had agreed (been persuaded/coersed?) and the total cost to us would be nearly £1500.  I didn't speak to him for 2 days I was so furious but have calmed down a little now.  I'm sure it will be a nice wall  but we won't be around to see it, the flower bed of poppies (a well-known landmark in this area for over 30 years) has been flattened and removed and our savings for furniture and fittings for our new home in Australia is seriously depleted!  What made me even more mad was I have saved £50 a month for a whole year to buy a lap-top we could both use whle our PC and worldly good are being shipped halfway round the world whereas Clive happily parted with 3 times that amount without consulting me!

Rant over
