Government House

Had a great trip with the Probus Club to see the Georgian Mansion in the City.  It is the oldest Government House in Australia and home to His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarse and his wife Elizabth.

The house for the first governor (Hindmarsh) was a wattle and dawb hut but was replaced in 1839 and became the home of Governor Gawler.  New additions were made in 1855.  The Entrance Hall, Ballroom, State Dining room, Adelaide room, Drawing room, Library and Study are open to the public a few days a year and to selected groups.  I even sat in the chair in the Queen's favourite room when she visited on several occasions.

The guest and family rooms are upstairs and private but it is an interesting and beautiful building with a lot of interesting history attached.
